The new Sunset bergère is made up of two distinct parts: the shell and the headrest for a specific reason: lighten the silhouette of the product by creating a visually harmonious line. The outdoor stretched and rigorous surface contrasts with an internal padded coat that is much softer, creating an original graphic design. The comfort of the seating area is accentuated by the reclining mechanism, available only in the variation with the headrest, whereas the base is equipped with a rotation mechanism both for the armchair and the bèrgere version. The seating collection “Oltremare” designed by Antonio Marras and produced in collaboration with Saba, stems from a far-away past and place, full of history, recollection, memories overflowing with suggestions and visions. And this is how Antonio Marras presented an object so dear to him that he defines a sacred-idol, that narrates of his land, of his sea, but mostly, of his story. We named it Oltremare, because all things have a soul and every soul has a name. Oltremare encloses within its inlets the classic and the modern. The curve is a line that can be tamed: it forms a wave, a fold, it creates a place but it also offers an escape route. In our utopian world we investigated the relationship between the curved line and the act of seating, asymmetric shapes that become backrests and sink into extremely comfortable seats pushing past the rectangular schemes so dear to the sober lines of designing sofas. The asymmetric curves that enclose it are the inspirations for the Oltremare armchair that completes the collection alongside a padded bench. A comfortable nest suspended on a slim varnished metal base, whose essential lines render, by contract, the armchair’s silhouette even more interesting. Limes New is a sofa that upholds Saba’s philosophical approach to a larger furnishing project: “Everything slides, everything changes” elaborates Parmenide, who ignited the creative process and guided it through the research phases from the early 2000’s. Limes New is an invitation to go beyond the conventions of predefined space, showcasing how it can become something else altogether simply by moving the back rests. Limes New is a story to tell renewed through sartorial and technical detailing: the asymmetric cut of the back cushions improves support in the lower back. Research into new materials allows the sensation of softness from the goose down filling to come through and guarantees a superior comfort. Ananta Class is an informal, modular and versatile range that allows endless combinations of the independent backrests and bases available in 80, 120, 160, 200 and 240 cm lengths. Gala

Cristina Celestino designs for Saba the new Gala seating system, thus establishing a collaboration with the company. The project responds to the desire of investigating the sofa as a place and not only as a mere functional product, to the aspiration of dematerializing the very concept of traditional living and to create a sofa with a strong iconographic design component. The “sofa” is a place of exchange, it generates new experiences and it shapes interior spaces. With a subtle reference to the retro-future atmosphere of sofas that inhabited the ‘70s, the new collection explores the flexibility of the upholstered object with a no gender, sculptural and sophisticated volume, which lends itself to interpreting different visions of interiors, from residential to hospitality contexts. The central backbone is a vertical element that draws pleated curves ready to accommodate, both on the front as well as on the back, a seat-pouf element of different depths. The many possible configurations give life to a “hybrid” and flexible sofa with which one can interact. In a collective utopian imagination, the name Gala is associated to the concept of elegance and sophistication, but Gala is also an ornament, a decoration that is created with a rippled textile band and in our case, Gala becomes the structure of the upholstery itself. Gala is also one of the planets in Star Wars and an indirect tribute to the world of stars, to the optimism and the avant-garde that characterized that era.  

Vela

The sails, fixed to the boat mast, unfold urged by the breeze and then swell majestically, creating sophisticated lines that unravel the murmur of the winds. Since always, sails have represented a symbol of compromise between man and nature, as the dialogue between these two worlds. This concept is translated into Vela, Italian for “sail”, a sofa whose silhouette and precious details recall the elegance of this object. The fabric upholstery subtly alludes to the mainsail and the jib, tracing stylistically defined imaginary trajectories. The quilting is a strong reference to the unfurled sail and the diagonals that cross it represent its distinctive element. Exclusively designed fabric collection, fully removable covers.  

Metis

Metis enriches the Saba product category that interprets the sofa as a changing and organic element. Its name has distant origins: the Greeks indicated with the word Mètis a practical intelligence, one that allows for everyday problems to be solved skillfully, and in unconventional ways, adapting to different circumstances, with elasticity and ingenuity. The practical intuition behind the Metis sofa is the use of an elegant and visible metal hinge as a joint element between the backrests. This application allows for maximum flexibility without strenuous gestures. Linear yet soft at the same time, Metis is characterized by precious quilting that sculpts the volumes of the seats, backrests and armrests. Through the multiplication and rotation of the basic one or two seat elements, of which it is composed, the new seating system allows multiple configurations and aesthetic expressions for the home and contract environment. The Up sofa uses a simple mechanism similar to Lego’s snap-on system that allows customers to choose the height of the backrest that best satisfies their comfort requirements. Rendez-vous is the new seating system envisaged not only for the home environment, but also for public spaces. The aim of the project is to allow upmost flexibility in configurations with very few elements. The foundation is a metallic black painted structure on which various elements are fixed and can be moved according to the user’s preference. The proportions have been designed with upmost attention to detail and with careful observation it will be noticed that the arm width is slightly different to that of the back, the ergonomic needs are different, and it has been a design choice to steer clear from a more typical uniform width that goes right around the entire armchair. The seat itself has less padding compared to the arms which are designed to hug the body.
