Roundness in motionThis lamp is held into a sphere, two horizontal tops separate the reflector from the base. The reflector’s rotatory movement around the central articulation constantly describes new spheres. A sinuous, dynamic and agile shape, like a cobra that swings hypnotized by the music but ready to the spring. It is moulded with one single material, that is to say thermosetting resin, and available in bright colours, white, black or red. The 50-year anniversary of such an important lamp for Martinelli Luce as the Cobra designed by its founder Elio Martinelli certainly represents an important event for the company. For the occasion, a special version of the Cobra is produced, an interpretation by Emiliana Martinelli as a tribute to her father. The lamp comes in the exclusive night-blue color and is characterized by a series of holes on the cap representing the constellation of Scorpius, Elio’s zodiac sign. The lower body part turns on a steel made base connected with the upper body part by means of a central joint for a 360° rotation. The interior reflector/diffuser is white methacrylate opal.Designed by Elio Martinelli in 1968, Cobra is one of the first lighting fixtures produced with a special resin molding system. The lamp is characterized by simple lines and a geometric shape inscribed in a sphere, but, with the rotation of the arm, the reflector takes a position that recalls the head of a cobra ready to shoot.
