A hotel closure is a folded opening on the shortest side of the pillowcase. These are handy buttons and loops that you use to fasten the duvet and cover together, preventing it from shifting. The term button down comes from fashion. It literally means 'buttoned down' and often refers to the buttons on the collar of a shirt that you use to neatly fasten the collar to the shirt.
