About a Lounge AAL 83 Soft Duo

The AAL 83 Soft Duo fuses the minimalist more angular aesthetics of the moulded plywood frame with the softness and warmth of the quilted shell in contrasting materials. Retaining the same compact body shaped armrests and simple sculpted design that characterise the rest of the lounge series this design features a solid base with angled legs that slant slightly outwards for optimal stability. The base is available in different finishes and the quilted shell is offered with two different textiles or leathers to create a unique look that works equally well in corporate public or private contexts. Its form is inspired by the liquid lines of Rio de Janeiro and takes its name from the Lagoa (lagoon) district of the city. The fluid forms of the polished plywood parts are combined with a light steel structure to create a clean silhouette, with the backrest seemingly floating on the apex of a triangular frame with flared, cut-off. The tiles are composed of clay deposits from California and totally handcrafted using old-world methods introduced to this region by the first Spanish explorers and missionaries. Using local natural resources the early Spanish settlers made the first Missions with adobe clay tiles, which were only sun-air dry. And covered floors, walls, and roofs with terra cotta tiles (baked earth).Clay tiles were essential for the foundations of the first California Missions, and continue today to be an important element in the building of Spanish Revival Architecture homes in California, and in other states such as Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Florida to name a few.
