BILIA

BILIA

fontanaarte > Table lamp

Nothing more than a sphere, set in an apparently impossible feat of balance, upon a cone that serves as the base. One of Gio Ponti’s many compositional magic tricks, designed in 1932. The counterbalancing of two elementary geometric forms results in an original, perfectly proportioned object. An unpretentious composition, enriched by the extraordinary balance of its proportions and the stylish discretion of non-reflective materials. The light is diffused and valorized by the geometrical simplicity of the design. In designing Bilia, Gio Ponti imagined a smaller version in a range of “spray colours”. From those handwritten notes of the original project, FontanaArte presents Bilia Mini in new breathtaking chromatic variations.

METAFORA

METAFORA

fontanaarte > Table lamp

Metafora was born in the flourishing creative climate of the early ‘80s, when Gae Aulenti took on the role of artistic director for FontanaArte and decided to bring glass back to the forefront of the company’s production. On Aulenti’s invitation, Umberto Riva designed a precious table lamp consisting of a conical shade in layered opal glass supported by a transparent glass base that hides the metal frame, all interlocking. A highly decorative object, produced with traditional techniques like glass blowing and other examples of artisanal know-how, reproposed today to a clientele ever more attentive to originality of design and its timeless expressions.

Dia 2317

Strong, but light visual presence in the roomTwo powerful LEDs can be switched to function as a direct or indirect spotlight, or both. The lamp body, which appears to float in the air, is connected to the base by two thin, coloured power cables. In addition to conducting electricity, these cables also support the entire structure and are the key element of the design. The positioning of the LED light sources was designed in such a way as to avoid glare both when the LEDs are facing downwards and upwards. Many of DIA's components perform two functions at the same time: the cables conduct electricity and make the structure stable, while the glass tube holds the LED in place, letting the light pass through. Two powerful LEDs can be switched to function as a direct or indirect spotlight or both. The lamp body, which seems to float in the air, is connected to the base by two thin coloured power cables. Structure made of glass and painted aluminium. Plug-in driver.

Miniatures Mezzadro

Miniatures Mezzadro

vitra > Styling

On the occasion of the XIth Milan Triennial in 1957, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni presented their first prototype for the Mezzadro. The stool went on show in its current form that same year in an interior setting displayed at the &#187;Colori e forme nella casa d'oggi&#171; exhibition in the Villa Olmo in Como. <br/><br/>The designers used a common tractor seat for the springy metal seat, fastening it with a wing nut to the spring-based arched steel strip utilized in tractors to absorb the shock of uneven ground. They enhanced the stability of the cantilever structure by a wooden cross-strut that resembled the rungs of a wooden ladder.<br/><br/>Each of these parts clearly embodies its task as a part of a functional whole. And what strikes the eye is the recourse to an artistic method exemplified by Marcel Duchamp's found objects or Pablo Picasso's assemblages. The Castiglionis considered a design successful only once they had managed to eliminate all the unnecessary components and an optimal formal expression had been found for this concentration on the essential.

Lou 2020

Lou 2020

minotti > Cabinet

A combination of fine cabinet-making and high-end technology, the Lou 2020 sideboards blend exquisite craftsmanship with an updated look, featuring new materials, colours and structural details.  The Lou family, designed in 2017 by Christophe Delcourt and now revisited, includes a series of elements for the various areas of the home, such as the living sideboard and its TV console table version, and the dining, bar and night sideboards. A combination of fine cabinet-making and high-end technology, their common denominators are their use of precious materials, such as Stone Grey marble, and the refined workmanship of the glossy Mud colour lacquer finish on the doors and back, and the matt Mud colour finish on the sides, while the base is in Pewter colour metal. While maintaining the same precious, stylish details, they are a lighter version of the original, also in the new design of the legs, with square section. The French designer has changed the rules of perception, adding hidden functions to offer a contemporary take on the meuble à secret of the antique tradition from the past. In this way, the console table features an interplay of drawers, the bar sideboard a concealed compartment covered in shiny steel, the classic sideboard a series of doors and drawers. Elements revealed when used on a daily basis, where every detail leads to the discovery of others.

Confetto

marazzi group > Wall tile-stone-brick

Soft touch semi-matte surface Confetto is the new small-size porcelain stoneware proposal that becomes part of the Crogiolo collection, the Marazzi research that rediscovers the charm of authentic ceramics with a hand-made touch that is the result of a new hi-tech industrial craftsmanship. The surface is semi-matt, 'sugared', soft to the touch and is produced in a wide colour palette of 12 warm and cool shades in the two modular 5x15 and 10x10 sizes. The 3D Savoiardo 5x15 texture is instead made in all twelve colours and is inspired by the historical Canne Organo collection designed by Nino Caruso for Marazzi in the early 1970s. The texture has a slight breakthrough in the middle that emphasises its three-dimensionality and hand-made effect. Thanks to its minimalist yet sophisticated design, Confetto is dedicated to residential and commercial environments where you want to recreate a cosy allure and rediscover the charm of the 'handmade'. Confetto can be applied on walls and floors as well as design furniture elements.

Terra Nova Mediterraneo Tiles are made using the Maiolica ceramic technique. First, a tin-glaze layer on a terracotta tile is applied, then the tile is decorated over the glazed surface with other color glazes, and lastly it is fired in a kiln until it reaches the desired finish. The name Maiolica is thought to come from the medieval Italian word for Majorca, an island in the Mediterranean on the route followed by ships bringing Hispano-Moresque wares from Valencia to Italy. Moorish potters from Majorca are reputed to have worked in Sicily and it has been suggested that their wares reached the Italian mainland from Caltagirone, a town in the island of Sicily. Terra Nova tile collection delivers the stunning design and aesthetic solutions of authentic, old-world handcrafted decorative tiles, and at the same time meets technical requirements for applications of greater stress.

Industrial Landscape mirrors the original London with all the raw, sometimes even rough, elements making up the city. Aged and patinated by the passage of time, through which the weather, people and industry have left their marks on the materials and thereby created a continuous development of new expressions. This is the essence of Industrial Landscape. Introducing the new designs, Coal and Iron, the collection interprets two important industrial pillars. While Coal reflects the dark and mysterious substance that powered the Industrial Revolution, the Iron design imitates the gradual disintegration of the oxidized metal surface that generates a random hued patination. Besides that, the collection consists of five other patterns: The Smoke design visualises the fumes from factories and workshops, while Wash is inspired by the white paste that temporarily covers shop windows during renovation. The new high-quality recycled material used to make Happy Bin RE stems from Germany's 'Yellow Bag' (Gelber Sack) collection of household waste, from which used plastic packaging is sorted, cleaned, shredded and upcycled back into injection-mouldable polypropylene. Due to its composition, the recycled material is interspersed with tiny specks of pigment. These subtle colour variations perfectly complement the slightly irregular shape of the wastepaper bin: Swiss designer Michel Charlot was inspired by a Hans Arp sculpture when creating Happy Bin RE, which brings an unusual organic design language to the typically austere office.

BOW FLOOR

BOW FLOOR

tossb > Floor lamp

Since Roman times, the ‘arch’ is one of the basics in architecture. It’s part of our daily life (even if we don’t notice it), and it expresses at the same time deepness, strength and equilibrium. ‘bow’ tries to translate the essence of the arch into a minimalistic luminaire. Gravity and balance, combined with the arch, are the other ingredients involved in the design of this product. It is a small family composed by a floor/hanging lamp, and 7 different chandeliers (2, 4 or 6 bulbs).

SETAREH METAL MEDIUM

SETAREH METAL MEDIUM

fontanaarte > Ceiling lamp

This is the name of the family of lighting fixtures that Francesco Librizzi, a young Sicilian architect working in Milan, has designed for the first time for FontanaArte. Setareh was born of the idea of giving form to light. The lamp is composed of a sphere magically suspended within a thin metal structure. The play of circular masses and trajectories generates a balanced design of gravitational dynamics. The light from the sphere is diffused into the surrounding space, illuminating the frame. The reflections of the metal render the luminous field visible, space influenced by light, by its aura. The result is a collection of lighting elements, available in tabletop and suspension versions, of extraordinary poetic grace. Setareh takes on new dimensions: elongated, with either two or three spherical elements that work separately or together. Its vocation is the illumination of large spaces, with double-height ceilings or otherwise ample enough to accomodate expansive compositions of multiple elements. A firmament of Setareh, ‘star’ in the ancient Farsi language.

The Rivera collection suggests a contemporary interpretation of retro elegance reminiscent of a typically Mediterranean vibe. This project is driven by a desire to experiment with contrasts and unique combinations of materials for the outdoors - lightweight stainless steel, the reassuring warmth of wood, sophisticated weaves and the amazing elegance of fabrics - all contribute to transform even outdoor spaces into intimate and cozy settings. A slender handcrafted base in solid iroko heartwood supports an enveloping backrest in woven polypropylene fiber, available in Light Grey and Dark Brown colors. The “cannage” effect weave requires great skill and manual ability as well as tireless, patient workmanship. The Rivera collection includes a two-seat sofa and a three-seat sofa, armchairs, ottoman, coffee table and chair that define retro elegance in contemporary language, using innovative materials to evoke sensations reminiscent of warm, typically Mediterranean settings, whether on a lakeside veranda or terrace overlooking the sea. A premium wood, solid iroko heartwood – universally appreciated for its durability and waterproof qualities – adds great value to the base of the painstakingly hand-finished Rivera seating elements. The unique shape of the cantilevered wood frame that is distinctive to the 98 cm-deep armchair, as well as the two-seat sofa and three-seat sofa, allows it to be used as a table surface for glasses or other small objects. The 84 cm-deep Rivera armchairs - perfect for pairing with the two-seat sofa - have restrained proportions and can also be used in projects where space is at a premium. Designed to fit seamlessly with the various seating elements, the coffee table comes with the top in fine grain, brushed, Silver Beola stone, set into the wood frame, for an extremely refined effect and timeless elegance. The Rivera chair, with its compact design and graceful lines, epitomizes all the aesthetic values of the project and the ideal combination of materials. It rests on a sinuous Pewter color painted tubular stainless steel structure specially treated for outdoor use, as are the padding materials for the soft cushions that are covered in water-proof fiber.

karakterCopenhagen > Chair

The Middleweight sofa captures the best of two worlds, the Italian super lounge sofa on one side and the compact Danish box sofa on the other. Set on a thin, open steel frame, the cushions are firmly held together by zippers and carefully mitered in the corners of the frame, resembling the sharp edges of folded paper. Middleweight is a luxuriously comfortable sofa, available as an arm-chair, 2-seater or 3-seater sofa and pouf. “This was my first sofa design, but actually the biggest surprise didn’t come until the product was finalized – when we stood there, looking at the actual sofa, and it looked exactly like what I had in my head. It is a great satisfaction as a designer. You can’t accelerate the process of design. An idea has to come when the time is right, so you have to stretch the process as long as possible and allow for enough time to get the ideas and experiments across.”

SETAREH GLASS LARGE

SETAREH GLASS LARGE

fontanaarte > Ceiling lamp

Blues rectangular table

Blues rectangular table

turri > Side table

The table of the Blues collection has a base that evokes wings, both aesthetic and functional, supporting the top, in an elegant game of lines. A metal detail makes the central meeting point sophisticated. The top is characterized by rounded corners and circular and light lines, as well as the profile, always rounded and enriched on the entire perimeter with the same metal detail of the base. The different varieties of materials and finishes of the top – in wood or marble – and of the base – in walnut or glossy lacquered wood – make the table a design element suitable for any interior. The Blues table is available in different finishes as per sample card.

Seen from above, the Earth is a perfect system. On an individual level, the different natural phenomena may seem incompatible, but from a bird's eye view it’s clear that they’re closely related and very adaptable. ReForm Discovery interprets the integrated systems created by both humans and nature in 5 patterns: Planet, Earth, Network, Net and Cliffs. Each design is available in 5 colour groups that are carefully selected for their ability to create unique compositions. The Discovery wall-to-wall carpet is produced in regenerated and regenerable yarns – and since the collection is Cradle-to-Cradle Certified, it's the perfect choice for your more sustainable, aesthetically optimised project.

London – an eternal source of inspiration to Tom Dixon Available in 48x48 cm, 96x96 cm and 24x96 cm. In Blur, the distorted city reflects in transient bits of water, while Tide shows the ever-changing sediments of the tidal River Thames.
