Gold Moon

Catellani & Smith > Ceiling lamp

Gold Moon is now also available in a bright wall or ceiling version, in addition to the pendant lamp. The new Gold Moon lamp is made up of six discs with an irregular surface, three with a diameter of 25 cm and three measuring 30 cm, embellished with the characteristic golden-coloured leaf coating. The dynamic arrangement of the discs, together with the golden-coloured finish, reflects the light provided by the small interchangeable LED elements concealed amid the copper curls, creating enchanting light and shadow effects on the wall.

For You

Catellani & Smith > Table lamp

As the name suggests, For You is a lamp designed to be given as a gift. Inspired by the lightness of a wildflower, it has a small brass base and a slender stem, covered in blue fabric, that is supposed to be shaped to your liking upon the lamp’s arrival, giving it a personal touch. The rice paper petals, easy to replace, house a dedicated LED board emitting a warm amber-coloured light. The lamp features an integrated push-dimmer, allowing you to adjust the desired amount of light.

I still practice this art, trying to find essence of those slow, precise movements. For example, Ensō, the circle symbol of enlightenment and wholeness, has always fascinated me. Bellatrix, named after one of the brightest stars in the Orion constellation, is a wall lamp with a diameter of 120 cm featuring a handcrafted irregular surface expertly lined with gold coloured leaf. It is available in two versions: in the first, radial lines appear to be hand-drawn on the surface, while in the second, the design follows centrifugal curves. The Bellatrix disc is illuminated by 9 LED boards integrated into a 10 mm diameter brass rod, supported by a brass flex, allowing for adjustable lighting orientation. The interaction of light with the irregular golden surface and the indirect lighting effect, typical of Catellani & Smith’s production, ensures a luminous comfort that makes this lamp suitable for creating environments with captivating charm. Par 18

The new Par 18 models by Catellani & Smith are characterized by irregular blown glass shades. This exclusive texture, created according to Catellani & Smith’s design by Bohemian master glassmakers and playfully resembling a golf ball, aims to maintain the transparency of the glass while generating a distinctive interaction of light with the uneven surface of the spheres. The Par 18 wall lamp is available in two finishes, white and black, both with brass elements. Thanks to the light emitted by a low-voltage COB LED, Par 18 creates diffused light, as well as a suggestive shadow pattern on the wall or ceiling, thanks to the irregular surface of the 16 cm glass sphere. The brass joint on the base allows a 350° rotation of the sphere on the horizontal axis and up to 90° on the vertical axis; the light beam can be adjusted in the desired direction and recreate suggestive light effects on the wall.

Thanks to the transparency of the glass and the thin cables that support the pendants, the Par 18 Chandelier stands out for the lightness and elegance of the entire composition, as well as for the unique lighting effect. It can be made with spheres of the same diameter (8 cm or 16 cm), or by combining elements of both sizes; it can also be customized on request with bases of different sizes and finishes, with a variable number of elements and custom heights.

Inspired by the famous Escher self-portrait, the new Sfera lamp by Catellani & Smith plays on the mirror surface effect, capturing the reflection of the observer. Gold Moon Chandelier brings a distinctive new twist to the traditional chandelier concept, turning it into a striking cascade of suspended light. It can be created in a variety of models, with different bases, finishes and numbers of elements, and is composed of a series of discs with irregular shapes, suspended from which are slender cables of different heights ending in beautiful copper curls cradling small LED lights. The internal surface of the discs, covered by hand in gold coloured leaf, engages with the light emitted by the LEDs, amplifying it and creating an alluring ambience.

“I was at the Frankfurt Trade Fair, presenting my new collection developed using LED circuits. I saw a Japanese lady pointing at my lamps and repeatedly saying “wa wa”. I went towards her and when I curiously asked her the reason, she told me “wa” meant “perfect”. I was touched and thanked her; I looked at the lamp, which was still nameless, and decided to call it “Wa Wa”.

Made entirely of natural brass, the sinuous Herem lamp comprises a rigid base and a flexible arm, which supports a thin oval plate that conceals a LED board with touchless dimmer.

Alchemie

The antithesis between light and dark, between Sun and Moon, is everlasting, like part of the same flow of existence. Many allegorical meanings have been given to the necessary relationship between two elements that each exist as a consequence of the other. The new lamp Alchemie T, designed by Giulia Archimede for Catellani & Smith, investigates this dimension whose components are diametrically opposed but always, and for ever, connected. Alchemie T is an exquisite sculpture composed of two discs: the former, made of alabaster and lit by LEDs, stays fixed, while the latter, made of brass, slides on a track-base made of Medea limestone just with a light touch of the hand. The interaction between light and shade reaches its peak the moment when the two discs overlap and almost mimic an eclipse.

Thanks to battery operation and the absence of cables, the new Giulietta BE can be ‘transported’ easily anywhere. With a simple touch of the hand, Giulietta BE can be switched on and set to three different light intensities. Giulietta BE consists of a thin rod – which originates from a circular base – and a circular disc surrounding the rod, apparently without any support. The disc concealing the light source is the distinctive feature of the lamp, which is part of the “Giulietta” collection.

FL/Y is an essentially-styled suspension lamp. The particular transparency of the material and the sheen of the colours recreate the idea of a soap bubble, shimmering iridiscently in the light. The shade is not perfectly hemispherical, with the cut-off falling just below the level of the diameter, offering greater concentration of the light. The lamp is available in three different sizes: Fl/Y (diameter 52cm, shade depth 33cm), Small Fl/Y (diameter 38cm, shade depth 28cm) and Big Fl/Y (diameter 83cm, shade depth 55cm).

Bloom is a tubular polycarbonate framework entirely covered by a structure of tiny transparent polycarbonate double corolla flowers. The result is an industrially produced lamp but with all the forms and stylistic complexity of a unique handcrafted piece.
