Description
JACK PIERSON, Automatic Drawing, 2014Edition of 20 + 1 APNumberedAccompanied by a Certificate of AuthenticityHand knottedWool & SilkHigh / Low CutFor HENZEL STUDIO, Jack Pierson has created three different carpets. The first was released in 2013, and is adapted from one of his automatic drawings, where the drawing strokes have been accentuated through lower pile heights. To expand the ongoing collaboration with Pierson, two additional designs launched in 2018. Here, Pierson re-appropriated pieces from his abstract sculpture series. The first one, based on 'Abstract #12' (2008) is a freeform design with a surface treatment that replicates a worn vintage feel though variable material compositions of wool and silk. For the second design (featured piece), Pierson re-appropriated a component of his sculpture 'Goin Home' (2011). The connected shapes creates free-form carpet with variable pile heights for dimension and enhanced use of silk to increase contrast.Pierson’s work is in numerous public and private collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York & Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Selected exhibitions: Cheim & Read, New York; Xavier Hufkens, Brussels; Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami & Whitney Museum of American Art, New YorkImages: (1) Automatic Drawing, 2014 (2) Goin' Home, 2018 (3) Untitled, 2018 (4) Jack Pierson, self-portrait, 1992.
