Willow

Willow paper yarn carpet was designed by the Swedish design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, the carpet saw the light of day originally at Helsinki Design Week 2002. Year 2022 the carpet has gone through product development process in which its final touch was found from natural dye. The irregular striping is dyed using willow bark in the colour combination stone-willow brown, natural-willow brown and black-willow brown combination. In the Willow carpet, a 240 cm pattern report that starts from the beginning when the carpet exceeds 240 cm in length. What is special and important to us is that the willow natural dye is produced locally: The willow is grown and collected, made into a dye and it has given its colour to the paper yarn in Finland. Using willow as natural dye is an old and well-known technique, but the ecological dyeing is continuously developing to meet the needs and standards of the modern world, so that hopefully one day natural dyes could replace synthetic ones. For Woodnotes the use of willow dye is especially inherent, since the material of the carpet itself is spun from wood. In natural dyes, the tonal differences between dyeing batches can be greater than in those dyed with synthetic dyes. These variations are acceptable and are not sufficient to be the reason for the complaint. Hand knotted and plain/monochrome Uni carpet is made of New Zealand wool 90% and cotton 10%. The name of the carpet refers to the word “unicolor / unicolour”. The color palette is soft earthy, colors are natural sheep wool colors (except black) that have not been chemically dyed. Since most of the wool remains undyed, less dyes, water and energy are consumed. The design solution is also as environmentally friendly as possible. The uniqueness of the monochrome Uni carpet emphasizes the fineness of genuine wool and the natural sheep wool colors. In Uni-carpets, the genuine color of the wool slightly varies as natural colors use to be varied. For example, our Uni carpet color “ivory white” includes small amounts grey and brown wool colors which bring exquisite spots of color to the surface. Genuine wool color makes each carpet completely unique: Uni-word also refers to a unique and unique piece. It is therefore to be understood that color variation is not a mistake: it is an important point that indicates the true earthy origin of the material. The delicate pile is tight and low.
