This porcelain stoneware collection celebrates the unique beauty of the stone quarried at Varana, in the Apennine mountains near Modena, Italy. The Varana Stone collection by Provenza is inspired by the distinctive stone quarried near the village of Varana in the Apennines between the regions of Tuscany and Emilia. It is a sedimentary rock formed by the accumulation of different types of sand on ancient seabeds. We analysed a wide assortment of samples of the original stone and selected a compositional graphic pattern through which the various sedimented layers seem to flow in harmony. The dialogue between Varana Stone’s two versions, Vein Cut and Cross Cut, together with the two distinctive decors, offers interior designers an invaluable tool for creating extremely natural, elegant design schemes even in particularly large locations. Varana Stone introduces the new Soft Honed finish Ceramic matter acquires a soft, smooth ‘feel’ with a matt surface. This finish, produced by mechanical brushing at the end of the production process, also provides excellent technical anti-slip properties.

The final product is aesthetically very impressive and combines the unique beauty of the inspiration material with the technical performance of the best porcelain stoneware. The range offers two different versions of the original stone. Variée evokes the inspiration stone’s dynamic aesthetic, with sweeping, marble-like patterning. Minimal, on the other hand, has a surface rich in fine details, with an attractively neutral overall effect. DigiGlass introduces a new effect onto ceramic surfaces thanks to an exclusive digital process, comprising application of a selected three-dimensional vitreous layer matched with the underlying patterning.

Michael Anastassiades investigated the possibility to associate the sense of smell to elements that are usually admired only with the senses of sight and touch. The creation of the fragrances was carried out with the consultancy of one of the most important perfume houses in Grasse.
