Piano approaches the project with the same mindset as architecture, applying construction logics similar to those used in his buildings, such as the New York Times Building in New York: a system based on tension rods and glass plates that gives shape to a family of tables, a console, and a bookcase conceived under conditions of balance and structural tension. Globo di Luce

A spherical pendant lamp characterized by a strong formal plasticity and an unusual finish for the material used. A mirrored glass globe, available in chrome or copper finishes, encloses an internal satin-finished aluminum cone that reflects and directs the light onto the surface below. The object stands out for its ability to blend into its surroundings, absorbing and reflecting what is around it, to the point of partially dissolving its own formal boundaries within space. Available in three different sizes, it adapts flexibly to a wide range of design requirements and diverse contexts of use.

Giova

A lamp and a flower vase—this is the essence of Giova , a hybrid object that perfectly synthesizes Gae Aulenti’s design research. Conceived in the 1960s and included in the FontanaArte catalogue from the 1980s onward, the lamp stems from the idea of combining lighting and decorative functions within a single element. Its form is composed of three stacked hemispheres: a transparent glass base contains a smaller opal glass sphere, within which the light source is placed, while the upper part, made of pulegoso glass, is conceived as a movable and freely resting element. This upper component can be used as a vase for floral arrangements or to hold small objects, transforming the lamp into a versatile and poetic domestic object. The interplay of transparencies, reflections, and layered volumes gives Giova a strong sculptural quality, allowing it to transcend its functional purpose and establish a continuous dialogue between light, material, and space.

Daruma

A tribute to the Japanese tradition of Dharma dolls, the Daruma lamp explicitly recalls their iconic form. Designed in 1968 by architect Sergio Asti for Candle Milano, now FontanaArte, it is composed of simple stacked hemispheres that generate a smooth, sinuous volume capable of diffusing light evenly and uniformly. Offered in three different sizes, it is made entirely of mouth-blown white glass and is characterized by a strong formal simplicity and a discreet yet recognizable presence. The largest version is intended for living rooms, the medium one for placement on furniture and surfaces, while the smallest model is suited for bedside use, naturally adapting to a variety of domestic contexts.

Bolla

This suspension lamp is called Bolla because its clear blown glass diffuser has an iridescent appearance that recalls the effect of soap bubbles. It is available in two shapes and sizes.

Amax

Bruco

Designed for FontanaArte in 2003 by the designer, architect and urban planner Vico Magistretti, this small wall lamp is made up of two blown glass spheres. In shape and size, it is perfect in any space and domestic context.

Nobi

Nobi is one of the most successful projects in the history of FontanaArte, originally conceived as a system capable of providing 360-degree illumination and adapting to any context. Today available in its most classic wall/ceiling version, it remains an object of strong technical and lighting value. The system is composed of paired convex lenses held in place by small clamps and fixed to a metal structure via two pins, which also support the light source. This solution allows the diffuser to rotate freely on its axis, enabling the light beam to be directed in different directions and thus modulating both the intensity and distribution of light within the space.

Lampara

A wide dome-shaped reflector, topped by a cylindrical structure, defines the essential, modern, and timeless language of the design. Its configuration recalls the traditional suspended street lanterns of major cities, reinterpreting their imagery in a contemporary key. The shape of the reflector is designed to direct and diffuse light effectively into the space below, giving the lamp a strong visual presence and a pronounced lighting functionality.

Riga

Riga is the concept that emerges when observing the lamp designed by Paolo Zani in 1995. A thin strip of satin or lacquered metal, elegantly curved, detaches from the wall and shelters the light source, defining the object’s profile with essential clarity. Two sandblasted glass diffusers distribute the light both upward and downward, creating a balanced and soft illumination. The geometric simplicity of the design, combined with the precision of its proportions, gives the lamp a discreet yet strongly architectural presence.

Sillaba

An arbitrary name chosen by Piero Castiglioni for this series of lamps, Sillaba is a small lighting object characterized by a diffuser in borosilicate glass that recalls the shape of a small mushroom. Usable both as a ceiling light and a wall-mounted fixture, it is also particularly suited for installation near mirrors or vertical surfaces, such as in bathrooms, where its compact dimensions make it a discreet yet recognizable sign within the space. Based on careful research in the FontanaArte Historical Archive, in 2026 the Sillaba Portable was introduced, a table version of the original project. Conceived as a small autonomous luminous presence, freed from the power cable, it is designed as a portable object capable of accompanying the user throughout different domestic environments. Its “nomadic” nature enhances its versatility, transforming it into a functional and at the same time playful element, always available wherever accent lighting is needed.

Tavolo con ruote

An industrial trolley used at the FontanaArte plant to transport glass: this was the object that inspired Gae Aulenti to design her Tavolo con Ruote. It is a specimen of intuitive design that skips the drawing board stage and goes straight from the idea of an everyday item to the prototype stage. This wheeled table replaces the factory trolley’s wooden shelf with a chunky sheet of beveled glass – a tribute to the company’s production history – and fits free-rolling industrial wheels. The nature of the object and its intended use are transformed by replacing just one simple part.

A skyscraper of light: Pirellone was born from this evocative idea, a floor lamp inspired by the form of the iconic Pirelli Tower designed by Gio Ponti in the 1950s. The structure is composed of two sheets of diamond-textured curved glass, held in place by a brushed nickel-plated metal frame. The small points of light reflected on the glass surfaces evoke the illuminated windows of the skyscraper at night, transforming the lamp into a living and dynamic architectural presence. The object thus takes on the character of a true miniature luminous architecture, where lightness, transparency, and verticality interact in a balanced composition. Its organic and slender form fully reflects Ponti’s design language, capable of combining structural elegance, material experimentation, and the poetic value of light.

Luminator

The Luminator lamp by Pietro Chiesa, considered the archetype of a series of lamps later developed by renowned architects such as Franco Albini and the Castiglioni brothers, takes its name from the term luminator , which refers to a floor lamp with indirect lighting and a fixed diffuser designed to direct light toward the ceiling. Its essential form, determined solely by technical requirements and devoid of any decorative elements, combines three fundamental geometric shapes: a hemisphere, a cylinder, and a cone. The hemispherical base contains a counterweight that ensures stability; the cylinder serves as the stem, supporting the conical reflector, which was originally designed to accommodate spot bulbs of a similar shape. Today, updated with LED technology, the lamp continues to stand as a classic of Italian design. It preserves the expressive strength derived from its formal simplicity and functional efficiency, while reaffirming its status as an iconic object in the exploration of indirect lighting and the relationship between luminous volume and architectural space.

Uovo

Uovo is a name that fully expresses what one expects to see: a lamp with natural, perfect forms inspired by the structure of an egg. Conceived in 1969 by Ben Swildens, its production by FontanaArte began in 1972 and has continued uninterruptedly, consolidating its success over time. An archetypal and universal form, the egg has always been a symbol of perfection, where symmetry and asymmetry coexist in harmony. A shell that encloses the light source, in a design operation that is both essential and subtly ironic, still capable of surprising today. As in nature, in Uovo the shell embodies absolute lightness: an elegant form in satin-finished mouth-blown white glass, capable of diffusing a warm, even, soft, and enveloping light. Available in three sizes, it expresses the full versatility of a collection designed for different uses: from the smallest version conceived as a bedside lamp to the largest one, which stands as a luminous sculpture and becomes a focal presence within the space.

Featured by an essential design, Volée switches on with an almost tennis-style gesture: a simple wave of the hand under the head of this lamp activates an electronic device that switches the light on or off without any contact. A touch sensor over the head allows the flow of light to be regulated to four different levels of intensity (40%, 60%, 100%, 0%). A Time Out system automatically switches the lamp off after it has been on for 5 hours. The tension for the hidden-spring balancing mechanisms is provided by steel wires that allow to orientate the light emission with a fluid movement. Volée is suitable for every kind of environment, both modern and traditional.

Considered one of the most emblematic design objects of the 20th century, Tour is a clear homage to Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel , a key work of Dadaism and a major reference point for Gae Aulenti. Created roughly ten years after the Table with Wheels , Tour represents its evolution into a dining table, reinterpreting its compositional and structural principles. Built according to the same design logic, the table employs authentic bicycle components such as the fork and wheel, transforming technical and industrial elements into integral parts of a domestic object. The inner tube and tire are replaced by a solid rubber ring, a solution that ensures greater structural stability without altering the project’s dynamic character. Easy to move, Tour retains a mobile and lightweight dimension, establishing a fluid relationship with space and with the domestic environment in which it is placed.

The Tavolino 1932 by Gio Ponti is an object that perfectly embodies his idea of design as a balance between elegance, function, and formal lightness. Designed in the early 1930s, it represents one of the most refined expressions of the period in which Ponti was defining a modern language capable of moving beyond traditional ornamentation without sacrificing compositional sophistication. Originally conceived also in a version featuring a base and central column made of fine wood veneers, the tavolino stands out for its essential nickel-plated metal structure and the measured use of materials, which emphasize the geometric clarity of the overall composition. The lines are clean and proportionate, with strong attention to the relationship between solids and voids, characteristic of Ponti’s research during those years. A central element of the project is the visual lightness created by the glass tops: the tavolino appears almost suspended, thanks to a construction that privileges the balance between solidity and transparency, anticipating many themes of modern Italian design.

Designed by master glassmaker Pietro Chiesa, the Tavolo Curvo (Curved Table), originally conceived as a console table for the entrance halls of Milanese noble residences, was the first table ever made from a single sheet of curved glass. Initially produced by Luigi Fontana & C., the parent company of FontanaArte, the piece was unique within both the Italian and international design landscape, as the company was among the very few capable of bending large glass sheets at the time. From an initial production limited to only a handful of examples, the Tavolo Curvo gradually acquired significant iconic and artistic value. In the 1970s, it was reintroduced under the name Fontana , becoming a symbol of Italian craftsmanship and a defining icon of FontanaArte, subsequently developed in different sizes and variations. Today, despite being nearly a century old, the Fontana Curved Table retains an extraordinary formal relevance. The purity of the material, the simplicity of the structure, and the seamless continuity of its curved surfaces make it a timeless piece, capable of integrating effortlessly into contemporary interiors while preserving the strength and originality of its original design.

Yumi

Yumi means bow in Japanese. Today, this simple shape is re-interpreted by Shigeru Ban for FontanaArte. Its absolute harmony is destined to turn into a new universal classic. Yumi is both delicate and strong: an essential sign that meets a resistant and light structure. 170 LEDs are discreetly sunk into the structure of the lamp minimising the use of space and further enhancing the continuous line of the bow design. Choosing materials that are resistant to high temperatures made it possible to sink the wiring entirely inside the stem during the production process. Yumi spreads a warm downward glow which is ideal forcreating an intimate atmosphere. It adds character to different interiors with its distinct but subtle personality.

Entirely made of glass, Thor consists of a single mouth-blown glass element that defines the lamp’s entire structure. Its curved form, reminiscent of an elephant tusk, generates a luminous arc capable of enhancing and enriching any environment in which it is placed. The Nut is a collection of discreet luminaires that are characterized by their ergonomic and forceful body. With Nut bollard we wanted to expand the family and take the lamp out to the garden to mix it with the green of the plants and shrubs. The bollard emit a halo of direct, nuanced lower light at an angle of 55º. The Nut bollard comes in 3 versions: one of 60cm high with one light source and two of 90cm high with one or two light sources. They are not adjustable. It is ideal to be installed in gardens and outdoor environments.

The Luminator lamp by Pietro Chiesa, considered the archetype of a series of lamps later developed by renowned architects such as Franco Albini and the Castiglioni brothers, takes its name from the term luminator , which refers to a floor lamp with indirect lighting and a fixed diffuser designed to direct light toward the ceiling. Its essential form, determined solely by technical requirements and devoid of any decorative elements, combines three fundamental geometric shapes: a hemisphere, a cylinder, and a cone. The hemispherical base contains a counterweight that ensures stability; the cylinder serves as the stem, supporting the conical reflector, which was originally designed to accommodate spot bulbs of a similar shape. Today, updated with LED technology, the lamp continues to stand as a classic of Italian design.
