CLOSE ENCOUNTERS - Blown glass sculpture by Gardeco Objects
Description
Close Encounters is a blown glass sculpure of the Belgian artist and renowned architect Stefan Schöning. The idea for Close encounters arose at the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic. Governments took measures that made people feel safe, but also quite lonely and estranged from one another. Rather than to portray distance, the artist decided to concretise the opposite: closeness. Schöning consciously selected glass as a medium for Close encounters, as it can be mouth blown and its properties allow two ‘bubbles’ to cling to each other. Besides this, the transparency of the work and complementary colours enhance the effect of attraction. The work of Stefan Schöning is handmade in the artisanal studio, Cá D'oro.
