Tangāli - Daybed In teak and cane by Phantom Hands
Description
Tangali Day Bed - The Tangāli Day Bed is part of the second collection designed by INODA+SVEJE for Phantom Hands. Innovation in cane weaving was a core part of the design process for the Tangāli collection. Tangāli means cool breeze in the Kannada language (spoken locally in Bangalore where the Phantom Hands workshop is based). The Day Bed is known as 'charpoy' in India and is an essential and historically significant piece of furniture. Versions of the charpoy are seen in most homes in rural India even today. They are usually made with wood and woven fabric or ropes. Pierre Jeanneret is credited with designing several modernist variants of the Day Bed during his stay in Chandigarh in the 1950s, some just for his personal use.Finishes:We offer this product in a choice of Natural Teak or Dark Stain wood finish. For Natural Teak finish, the wood is sanded to smoothness and transparent wood polish and sealer are applied with a soft cloth to bring out the natural golden brown colour of teak. For Dark Stain, a coat of teak stain is hand applied to give the wood a darker, deeper shade.Phantom Hands carries forward its pursuit of Indian Modernism via collaborations with contemporary designers such as INODA+SVEJE, x+l, Derek Welsh, Klemens Grund, Nityan Unnikrishnan, BIG-GAME and others. Their designs are developed collaboratively via a hands-on prototyping process involving feedback and inputs from its artisans. Innovations in craft techniques from its R&D lab, as well as the use of appropriate mechanical tools have both proved crucial to the production of its contemporary pieces.
