Apartment | Nicosia Located at the hard of the city but in a quiet and rather isolated area this ground floor apartment is a part of a big residential block. The design concepts were simple: to make the most of the good distribution of the apartment but to lend it a contemporary style and to make it environmentally friendly. Equally it was important to create a space in which art would take centre stage, that the lighting should exploit the design qualities and generate agreeable atmospheres and a furnishing specification in line with the quality and style of the rest of the house. These spaces were decorated with works of art and objects, which the owner has been acquiring as much in Cyprus as in other countries. The bookcase, overrun with books of various colors, shapes and sizes, has covering the wall and the courtyard provides natural light and ventilation to the study room.

Architecture, Interior design & Furniture Fittings design HEMONIDES FURNITURE BRIDGE / dining table CHLOY / dining chair KIARA / coffee table WIRED / dining table Situated in the Aradippou area of Larnaca, this residential project was commissioned by a growing family looking for a bespoke design that would maximise the potential of a relatively small plot. Emphasis needed to be placed on open plan living that is flooded with natural light without compromising on the need for privacy. The clean lines of this semi-detached design was elevated by incorporating a travertine marble cladding, which adds a layer of texture and earthiness to the façade. The 210 m2 residence unfolds on two levels comprising of an L-shaped living/dining/kitchen layout on the ground floor and an upper level that accommodates one spacious master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, two more bedrooms with a shared bathroom and an office/study area. Space optimisation was achieved by introducing the stairs behind the façade of the house, which were also designed as a continuation to the custom built in shelving/fireplace unit. The added challenge of a south-facing plot was overcome by using a tinted glass curtain wall on the length of façade to allow as much natural light in from the front, while at the same time preserving privacy. The open plan layout of the ground floor spaces was further enhanced by achieving the concept of indoor/outdoor living. Large sliding doors opening to the private backyard offer unobstructed access and views to the garden, while the south-facing entrance made it possible to open the interior spaces for the best ventilation (west). Finally, by using natural materials like oak flooring and brushed antique granite in combination with the black and white tones of the furniture fittings, we were able to achieve a calm and bright interior environment that is cosy and inviting at the same time.

Inspired by the craftsmanship and art of joinery, combined with a minimal but functional form that embodies a mid-century expression. The shelves and walnut veneer cabinets are laid on a metal structure to give the illusion that they are floating.
