The new building was planned by the Hamburg architects gmp von Gerkan Marg und Partner as part of a structural restructuring around the Central Bus Station (ZOB). The tone is set by a brick facade from GIMA, whose lattice masonry creates a characteristic pattern and is striking from afar - by day and by night.

Statt eines ehemaligen Kohlekraftwerks steht auf dem Gelände an der Bornaischen Straße eine Anlage, die für eine klimaneutrale Zukunft ausgelegt ist. Mit Wasserstofftechnologie – und nach geplanter Erweiterung auch durch Solarthermie – soll hier künftig das Fernwärmenetz versorgt werden.
