The subversion of striped fabrication has been a recurring theme in the collections of Vivienne Westwood from the early years. The painted stripe was seen in collections from the 1980s, often in the background or overprinted in designs seen during the punk era. Using Japanese techniques and charcoal, the Cole & Son artists created croquis for the Japanese Woods design. It is a modern interpretation of a traditional craft, known as Daisugi, a Japanese sustainable mission to preserve a whole forest in one tree. Within each pruned tree you have a whole forest.
