Together, the base and the top enact a tension: the permanent structure cradles the dynamic plane, just as tradition provides the platform for reinvention. To gather at this table is not merely to convene, but to participate in the very act of giving form to what is yet to be. The alignment of the pattern across the chair was carefully defined to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing composition. An idea of designing at the limit where comfort appears as a surprise,” explains Manuel. Twenty-Five Ottoman was designed as a companion to Twenty-Five Bergère Chair. Its solid wood base nods to barrel making, with two curved legs made from several components carved and joined. The legs, reminiscent of two halves of a barrel, are oriented inwards to create visual levity. Twenty-Five Bergère Chair is a high-back chair that reflects diverse influences including vernacular chairs such as Orkney chairs, and the work of Axel Einar Hjorth, Rudolph Schindler and Finn Juhl. The timber back nods to barrel making, its curved form made from several components carved and joined. The wide armrests are carefully sculpted to invite the hands to explore.
