Ceramics is traditionally regarded as delicate, yet with Crockery Chairs, designer Max Lamb and 1882 Ltd. challenge this assumption, treating material pressure points as opportunities for innovation rather than constraints. The process begins with Lamb hand-sculpting each form in plaster, which then serves as the master model for 1882 Ltd.’s potters to reproduce through traditional slip-casting. This meticulous, time-intensive method demands weeks of controlled drying, expert handling, and carefully calibrated firing, each stage determining the final form and colour, and leaving little room for error. Crockery is both a feat of innovative production and an evolution of a long-standing creative dialogue, showcasing 1882 Ltd.’s technical mastery and Lamb’s material experimentation as they push ceramics beyond its presumed limits.

Petrosphere 1900 Table

The Petrosphere Table is defined by its sculptural presence and generous proportions. With a diameter of 190 centimetres, the table comfortably seats eight, making it ideal for larger gatherings and outdoor entertaining. Its circular form creates a natural sense of connection around the table, while the substantial cast construction gives it a reassuring sense of permanence. Designed as a statement piece, it anchors a terrace or garden setting with quiet authority and refined character. DESIGN Launched in May 2024, the Petrosphere design is inspired by Neolithic carved stone balls found across the British Isles, dating back over 5,000 years. The original purpose of these objects remains unknown, but their intricate carvings and tactile qualities suggest they were created to be held and experienced through touch. This idea forms the foundation of the Petrosphere collection. One of the most complex known carvings has been reinterpreted across the tabletop, where the pattern flows into three sculptural representations of the original spheres, creating a mesmerising surface that invites closer inspection and interaction.
