Mina Mina is a waterhole close to the Patjarr Community. It is surrounded by a claypan which is a water catchment area rich in bird life and of cultural significance to Patjarr people. Warakurna is a community situated on the Great Central Road in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands of Western Australia. Warakurna has a long history of artistic expression. In March 2005 the Art Centre studio was opened, and is fully owned and governed by Aboriginal people, providing services to artists living and visiting Warakurna and the nearby community of Warakurna. The Art Centre plays an important role in the community, providing cultural an social benefits in addition to economic returns. Warakurna Artists facilitates the production and distribution of the artist's artwork. Myra Yurtiwa Cook was born at a special place called Kartjinguku, a creek situated near Warakurna. There was a warnampi wati (water snake man) from Pukarra. He had to travel to the Lirrun where the lirru yarnangu (snake people) lived to ask for help. His son was wounded and very sick. He travelled a really long way to get some special medicine for his son. The snake people were going to travel back to Pukarra with the warnampi man to help him and his son but a young man made a mess. In 1973, together with her husband, Harold Wilson, Regina founded the Peppimenarti (meaning ‘large rock’) Community as a permanent settlement for the Ngan’gikurrungurr people. The location of the community is an important dreaming site for the Ngan’gikurrungurr language group and is situated amid wetlands and floodplains at the centre of the Daly River Aboriginal Reserve, 300 kilometres southwest of Darwin. Dali Dyalgala is a special fabric range collaboration between Koskela and First Nations artists. Spanning the Tiwi Islands, Northern Rivers and Northern Territory, this project truly highlights the adaptability, breadth and depth of artistic expression in the First Nations design industry.  Dali dyalgala is a Darug phrase meaning to embrace. A fitting reflection of the coming together of six female artists across the country from various language groups and cultures. The choice to use Darug language ties the project back to Koskela as we pay respects and acknowledge our local language of the Eora people. Dali dyalgala is a gesture of reconciliation, to embrace one another and work together to make positive change. Koskela licensed the artworks directly from the artists and art centres to develop a range of unique colourways for each. Dali dyalgala presents a new opportunity to create income streams for First Nations artists and is an exciting addition to Koskela’s fabric range.
