Custom patina available. One of the most recognisable designs by Michael Anastassiades Studio, the Ball Lights consists of pendants, wall pendants and ceiling and wall sconces. Designed around existing incandescent bulbs of that time, the project began as an exercise to abstract the bulb into a perfectly spherical ball, celebrating its perfect shape by repeating it in metal.

I am fascinated by the thought of using it in exactly the way it grows naturally by simply cutting it at the moment it reaches its required diameter. I love the idea that I could use it without any industrial processing, by simply defining a series of parameters to determine my selection and cutting process. The project is essentially an exercise of negotiation with nature.”

Relay 1

Relay 1

michaelanastassiades > Floor lamp

This family of floor lamps proposes an interchangeable lighting solution attached to a marble block. The exercise is an attempt to provide minimal support for the linear lighting elements through the simple gesture of touching the marble base with an invisible magnetic connection. The result is a distilled composition of basic elements.

One Well Known Sequence 01

One Well Known Sequence 01

michaelanastassiades > Floor lamp

This collection of fixtures uses the standard unit of the light tube as a measure. Through the alternation of 1m and 0.5m modules, it creates a rhythmic language of recording space. The designs evolve as a parallel progression of rods, combining five variations of standard linear LED bulbs and metal tubes of the same diameter. With this series, Michael Anastassiades expands the compositional possibilities of some of the most structural elements of lighting, engaging the viewer in a rigorous yet playful exercise in measuring.

Get Set

michaelanastassiades > Table lamp

A mouth-blown opaline sphere rests on a solid brass bar, evoking a play of balance and stillness. The idea of a movement caught in a second of suspension is a recurring theme in Michael Anastassiades’ designs, which often trigger the imagination of the viewers, offering them a playful yet meditative moment of contemplation.

Tip of the Tongue

Tip of the Tongue

michaelanastassiades > Table lamp

Custom patina available.Tip of the Tongue consists of a table lamp, wall and ceiling-mounted sconce, all which feature an interesting illusion: a luminous mouth-blown opaline sphere appears to roll down the edge of a solid polished brass base. This delicate gesture of a sphere poised on the edge of the surface evokes the familiar phenomenon of failing to retrieve a word from memory, expressing a moment of tension in the form of the design. Tip of the Tongue was launched at Euroluce in Milan in 2013.

Floating Forest

Floating Forest

michaelanastassiades > Styling

‘A few years ago I saw an acorn vase by Estrid Ericson, produced by Svenskt Tenn. I loved the simple poetry of an object of that nature, growing a single acorn. It was the hope for early spring, especially coming from a country with such heavy and dark winters. I became obsessed with the simple idea of suspending a seed on the surface of the water, submerged. Just the right level for it to germinate, with the possibility of it supporting itself in the absence of soil, allowing it to stand upright; exposed, all in clear view.’The series consists of seven different models to be positioned over a drinking glass of your choice, each designed to suit a specific seed or stone.

Beauty Mirror

Beauty Mirror

michaelanastassiades > Styling

The Greek philosopher Socrates urged young people to look at themselves in mirrors so that, if they were beautiful, they would become worthy of their beauty. The Beauty Mirror takes inspiration from those ancient polished surfaces, offering a reflective image with a golden glow. This mirror challenges the notion of what a true reflection is, both in terms of consistency and colour.
