The Amsterdam Side Chair and its companion Bar and Counter Stools, are inspired by a favorite piece of late 1800's Parisian furniture. The style and scale make them useful and livable, while the clean lines and fine hand-carved geometric detailing make a dramatic statement. Standard with NP-08 Premium Old Brass nail head trim, no spacing, and standard with Hickory Chair provided grosgrain ribbon beneath the nails (option to send COT grosgrain ribbon for upcharge). Petite Nails are the only size nail that will work on this frame. Option for no nails available, must request on order, there is no upcharge to remove nails.

With the opening of Winterthur Museum in 1951, Henry Francis du Pont and his family moved to a Regency-style villa built just across the lawn. He decorated his new house with English, French, and Italian antiques acquired early in his career as a collector. Many of those furnishings had filled the du Pont's Park Avenue apartment for the previous thirty years. One of their friends described the Park Avenue ambience as very "swagger," or elegant. In 1994, Christie's auction house in New York sold this collection, raising several million dollars for Winterthur's acquisitions fund. The Ravenel Accent Chair is an updated version of his original cane-back tub chair.

The sculptural exposed wood frame is accentuated by elegantly slender mahogany trim surrounding the base, arms, and outback. The Alexander Chair is standard with a single Spring-Down seat cushion. Shown is the HC2581-20 Square Bristol Cocktail Table in Silver Leaf. It is available in Gold Leaf as HC2581-10. Leaf finishes are made with hand applied metal sheets over a base undertone paint. To create an antiqued look, the craftsperson purposely allows the undertone to show through the leafed surface. One will find areas red showing through the gold leaf finish and on the silver leaf finish, areas of a bluish gray. As metal leaf sheets are hand-applied, each table is unique with varying amounts of the undertone showing through the finish. The Bristol Cocktail Table series is also available as a rectangle as HC2580-10 Gold Leaf and HC2580-20 Silver Leaf and as an oval as HC2579-10 and HC2579-20 Silver Leaf.
