Our Allée ADA Sconce brings the beauty of bent plywood to lighting with an ADA-compliant design that gently washes the wall with light. Available in birch and walnut. A favorite of architects, plywood is valued for its warmth, simplicity, and sustainability. Once considered an industrial material used in boats and aircraft, designers in the 1920s began bending plywood into sculptural forms. Finnish architect Alvar Aalto led this movement, pioneering bent-wood plywood furniture with soft lines and a fresh modernism aesthetic, an approach that has influenced designers for nearly a century including Ray and Charles Eames in the 1940s and 1950s. Washi Fan Sconce

The authentic Japanese uchiwa fans featured in our Washi Fan Sconce are crafted by a renowned Kyoto fan atelier with over 300 years of tradition. Representing the pinnacle of Kyoto craftsmanship, each fan is entirely handmade—from shaping the aged Tanba bamboo ribs to precisely cutting and applying the washi paper. The sun-bleached washi paper is produced by master artisans, while the sculpted smooth handle is crafted from locally sourced Tsuga hemlock. The exquisite Japanese fan is mounted with brass pegs and softly backlit by a slim LED bulb, casting a gentle glow through the washi and creating an atmospheric wash of light on the wall. The rectangular backplate is made from American maple and assembled by hand in our Pacific Northwest studio and meets ADA requirements. Namesake: The word uchiwa is linked to an old Japanese saying believed to mean “repel the evil.” Its pronunciation resembled uchiwa, which is why these fans have long been regarded as protective charms and symbols of good luck.

An exquisite ceramic lamp featuring a sculptural bloom perched atop a conical pedestal. Handcrafted in our studio and finished in a natural white glaze, each piece bears the subtle variations and imperfections that reflect its artisan character. Namesake: Josephine Baker was an American dancer, singer, actress, counter-intelligence figure, resistance fighter, civil rights activist, mother of 13 adopted children, and pilot. During World War II Baker joined the secret services of General de Gaulle’s Free France and carried war messages in her music scores and costumes. Baker died in 1975 and received military honors and tributes from the entire artistic community in France.
