Our Allée ADA Sconce brings the beauty of bent plywood to lighting with an ADA-compliant design that gently washes the wall with light. Available in birch and walnut. A favorite of architects, plywood is valued for its warmth, simplicity, and sustainability. Once considered an industrial material used in boats and aircraft, designers in the 1920s began bending plywood into sculptural forms. She was the daughter of an Indian father and an American mother. Under the codename Madeleine, she was sent from the UK into occupied France to aid the French Resistance. The messages she sent back to London as a wireless operator behind enemy lines significantly aided the Allies success.

Namesake: Josephine Baker was an American dancer, singer, actress, counter-intelligence figure, resistance fighter, civil rights activist, mother of 13 adopted children, and pilot. During World War II Baker joined the secret services of General de Gaulle’s Free France and carried war messages in her music scores and costumes. Baker died in 1975 and received military honors and tributes from the entire artistic community in France.

Namesake: Henrietta "Hetty" Green was a trailblazing investor and financier who defied the conventions of her era to become wealthiest woman of the Gilded Age. Fiercely independent, Hetty worked alone from her modest desk in a Manhattan bank, value investing and making low-rate loans with her personal reserves of cash, helping bail out Wall Street, New York City, and the United States economy in times of need. While she was modest and unwilling to participate in New York City high society, those who knew her admired her warmth, wisdom, and wit.

Variations and imperfections in the concrete base are inherent in its artisan production.  Namesake: Muriel Wylie "Capi" Blanchet (1891-1961) was a Canadian author best known for her seminal Northwest boating memoir The Curve of Time. In 1926, when Blanchet was widowed at the age of thirty-five, she packed her five young children into a twenty-five-foot boat and they cruised the ragged, wild, perforated coastline of British Columbia for fifteen consecutive summers.

NUANCES VOLCANO - Rectangular handmade rug

The NUANCES collection by Patricia Urquiola, a testament to sustainable craftsmanship and innovative design, is crafted from felt—a natural material known for its warmth and malleability. This new offering by GAN represents the brand’s commitment to exploring new textures and techniques to evolve traditional crafts. Felt serves as the foundational material, which Patricia Urquiola reimagined through meticulous experimentation. She combined different densities of wool in various colors to achieve a striking stone-like appearance that is both innovative and transgressive. This process involved recycling discarded fibers, allowing for a unique transformation of this natural resource. The NUANCES collection comprises three rugs with distinct patterns—Curve and Round—and a pouf, designed to create an infinite array of architectural geometries through versatile combinations. The designs are available in three color palettes: stone gray, rose and burgundy (Burgundy), green and blue (Naiad), and earth and lava (Volcano). The rugs measure 200x300 cm or 6'7"x9'10" for the Curve design and 250x300 cm or 8'3"x9'10" for the Round model. The pouf stands at dimensions of 100x56x43cm or 40"x22"x17". Each piece is entirely sewn by hand, a hallmark of Patricia Urquiola’s designs for GAN. The NUANCES collection embodies an intentional sensory and artistic experience. The Lucy Compass Surface has a sweet country spirit inspired by vintage woodenware and spindle furniture.   Namesake: Nicknamed “the orator”, the “morning star” and the “heart and soul” of the women’s rights movement, Lucy Stone (1818-1893) was a pioneer in the suffragist movement and lectured against slavery. Lucy advocated for equal pay for women and was the first woman in Massachusetts to earn a college degree.

FL/Y is an essentially-styled suspension lamp. The particular transparency of the material and the sheen of the colours recreate the idea of a soap bubble, shimmering iridiscently in the light. The shade is not perfectly hemispherical, with the cut-off falling just below the level of the diameter, offering greater concentration of the light. The lamp is available in three different sizes: Fl/Y (diameter 52cm, shade depth 33cm), Small Fl/Y (diameter 38cm, shade depth 28cm) and Big Fl/Y (diameter 83cm, shade depth 55cm).
